End-of-Year Reflections & 2025 Goals

The end of year is always a time where I’m able to get good break from work, and divert my focus to family, mostly involving quality time with my daughter. During this time I’m always super reflective of the year, and try conjure new goals I hope to achieve in the year ahead.

In this post, I’m documenting my aspirations for 2025. My plan is to revisit and update this list throughout the year, tracking progress and hopefully checking off as many goals as possible by year’s end.

Good luck to you if reading and hoping for a great 2025. Everyone is at different stages of life, the first thing we need to do is visualize and note our goals to achieve them, otherwise we are walking aimlessly.

My 2025 Goals

Goals with Targets

> Change My Daily Surroundings
Working from home as a single parent half the week can sometimes feel monotonous. I used to break things up by working at coffee shops, but I’ve realized I’d love to make a bigger change, like moving house.

> Join a Fitness Class
I really want to join a boxing class. I had thoughts on joining jujitsu, but I just get more excited by the boxing class idea. I’m a huge fan of watching both sports.

> Complete a 5-Day Hike
After completing the West Highland Way (WHW) from Glasgow to Fort William on foot (wild-camping along the way), I’m ready for a new challenge. My list includes hiking around Skye or doing the Great Glen Way, continuing from the WHW finish line to Inverness.

> Generate an Additional £500/Month in Side Income
I’m focusing on reviving my website work to achieve this. I’ve had success with it in the past, but things slowed down over the years. With renewed energy and ambition, I’m determined to make consistent progress this time around.

> Volunteer or Give Back
I’m committed to dedicating more time to helping others. I’ve already started with a local community center’s kids’ creativity class and would love to expand my efforts. Joining school volunteer days, where parents are often needed, is another goal for the year.

Passive Goals

> Be a Great Dad
Continuously strive to be the best parent I can be, offering love, support, and memorable experiences for my daughter.

> Achieve Good General Fitness
I need to exercise minimum a few times a week. I need to maintain a weight of 75-80kg through-out the year. For me, the problem has always been, when you stop exercising for a period, it can just prolong and you end up in a non-exercise period. I’m sure many can relate, and it’s the quick route to bad general health and mental well-being.

> Be a Great DBA & Engineer
My colleagues rely on me, as I do them. I want to hold the optimistic mind and strive to be one of the best SQL Server Database Administrators out there. This takes years of dedication, consistency, and learning from all failures through-out my career. I love what I do, and love where I’m at. All I can do is hope for more of the same for this area in 2025.

> Plan & Enjoy Holidays
I want to keep improving at planning my life, from daily tasks to big events. I’m keen to visit Spain a few times next year and plan a proper holiday with the kiddo. In 2025, I’d like to visit two other countries in Europe, possibly on the same trip. My goal is to be consistent about putting everything; holidays, family events, and daily needs into my calendar so I can stay organized and make the most of every moment.

> Do The Right Thing
I have two main principles I keep reminding myself atm: do the right thing and avoid big mistakes. Doing the right thing is something I face every day, whether it’s about making an important decision or staying productive. I try to trust my instincts, make the best choice I can, and stick to what helps me live a stable and consistent life.
